We are a mushroom microfarm specializing in high-end gourmet fungi, supplying farmers’ markets and hospitality businesses, with plans to expand into retail. Based in East London, we began in a shed growing 20kg of mushrooms weekly. Our range includes lion’s mane, oyster, shiitake, nameko, king oyster, as well as native and unusual strains. We also produce mushroom seasoning, dried whole and powdered mushrooms, and grow-at-home kits. We are now seeking to expand into a larger site.
Requirements:
Minimum 150 sqft, maximum 320 sqft space
Electricity and water connections
Ability to vent air in and out of grow tents
24-hour access
Maximum 2-year lease (shorter terms negotiable)
Space and access for waste management
Budget available upon request
Preferred:
Parking availability
Location: ideally East London (Waltham Forest, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham)
Flexibility:
Suitable for mixed-use spaces (e.g., brewery, food production premises)
Option to rent one large or two smaller shipping container(s) if utilities available outdoors
Equipment:
Contained grow tents with humidifiers, ventilation fans, and lighting (sizes range approx. 2x2x1.5m to 6x3x2m, depending on space)
Contained incubation tent (similar specs, without humidity)
Electric stove for pressure cookers used in sterilisation
Two upright domestic fridges
Lab unit (max 2x2m) with steel bench, laminar flow hood, magnetic stirrer
Risk Management:
All growing occurs in sealed, controlled environments, maintaining humidity and airflow
Minimal odour (mild wood-chip scent during sterilisation)
Sterile processes with regular cleaning using isopropyl alcohol
Spores filtered out during ventilation
Some sound from sterilisation, which can be managed outside sensitive time windows as needed, plus quiet fan noise from ventilation.
Fully registered with Environmental Health, following strict controls
